The Techniques and Unique Aspects of Free-Heel Boarding |
|
Who
is the author, Olivier Couvreur? I
am committed free-heeler, but not exclusively. I am a free-heeler. With a background in alpine skiing, I started Telemark skiing in the 1990s. Later on,
I added another dimension to my skiing with free-heel boarding (teleboard). A few years later, I fully
expanded my range of snowsports, first, by learning
to alpine snowboard, then later,
by conquering a skwal
and a monoski.
While learning to skwal and monoski,
I still continued to free-heel board and Telemark ski. The route I followed while
learning these various snowsports has made me well
aware of the potential for blending
the different sports. What you can learn or feel on one type of board can
sometime help you progress on another one. |

Also, it made me realize
that free-heel boarding is definitely
a sport of its own, with techniques that are specific to the sport. These
techniques are very versatile, as is the associated gear, with a wide range
of applications and results on all slope conditions. I have read books on skiing
techniques with great interest, and found some useful tips in them. Currently,
there is not a single publication available about free-heel boarding; I
thought that what I have learned over the last 15 years on free-heel boards
might be of interest to others. To contact me, see details
